How does lasering work?
Laser resurfacing is a popular option in the family of ablative (wounding) skin resurfacing techniques — removes aged or sun-damaged skin to allow younger looking skin to grow in its place.
‘Ablative’ laser resurfacing destroys the surface layer of skin in a controlled manner, exposing the lower layer (the dermis, which is pink). As the wound heals, new skin forms that is softer and less wrinkled or scarred than the original.

Indication laser facial resurfacing
Laser resurfacing is an effective treatment for minor facial flaws. For example, it can lessen the appearance of fine lines around your eyes, mouth and cheeks. It can also improve your complexion if you have yellowish or grayish skin tones.
Laser facial resurfacing can be used for:
- removing superficial wrinklesItem
- tightening your skin a little
- evening out pigmentation (colouring)
- smoothing rough skin
- improving the look of shallow acne scars
Procedure laser facial resurfacing
The procedure can be carried out in the same operation as the other facial feminization surgery procedures. The technique can also easily be carried out under local anaesthetic as a stand alone procedure.
- Eye protection—Your eyes will be protected by two eye-shells while you are having Erbium laser treatment. We can also provide earplugs if you like, as the laser machine is rather noisy. In some cases your doctor will decide to administer a sedative at the start of the procedure to help you relax better.
- Local anesthesia—First, your face will be washed with a disinfectant liquid. The local anaesthetic is administered by subcutaneous injection using a very fine needle, just like at the dentist’s. You will feel a sting and perhaps a burning sensation, but that will disappear almost immediately. The anaesthetic keeps working for one and a half to two hours, protecting you from pain during treatment.
- Lasering—As soon as the anaesthetic is working, the surgeon will pass the laser beam over the area to be treated. He may need to pass the beam over the same area several times to reach the required depth. There may be some slight bleeding towards the end of treatment, but this will stop very quickly. The wound is similar to that caused by a graze.
- Cream—The final part of the procedure involves cleansing the face and applying a layer of cream to help the wounds heal. You can be taken home about half an hour after the procedure. We will give you another prescription for the cream that you must apply to your face.
