Gender of the lips
Male lips
- Thinner with less projection
Female lips
- Fleshy and good projection

The male face typically has a long upper lip with little or no visibility of the upper teeth. The youthful female face is characterized by a shorter distance between the base of the nose and the upper lip with more visibility of the teeth. It is a typical feminine trait that also characterizes youth, as opposed to the upper lip drooping and covering up your teeth which characterizes the aging process.
In regards to the vermillion border, it’s considered more feminine when it’s fleshy and having a good projection. This is also a typical trait of youth. That is why lip augmentation remains one of the most frequently sought after cosmetic procedures performed in aesthetic medicine today.
Feminizing the lips
Fat can be injected to augment the lips. That fat is is taken from another part of the patient’s body. The effect of injecting mainly on the inner side of the lip, directly under the intra-oral mucosa, is an outward rolling movement which reveals more of the inner lip.
Part of the fat graft will re-absorb, but a significant portion will be permanent. While difficulties remain in the predictability and longevity of fat transfers, the aesthetic effects are often impressive because of the resulting natural appearance.
If on the same time of the lip augmentation, you also have a forehead recontouring, a strip of membrane covering the forehead skull can also be used to augment the lips.
